Abstract
A semi-conductor diode lamp is formed of gallium arsenide, or indium phosphide or an alloy of both or an alloy of gallium phosphide or gallium arsenide, zinc being diffused into the surface of the semi-conductor to form a PN junction. The diode may be constructed from a slice of semi-conductor having a gold-plated molybdenum stud alloyed to the zinc-doped surface, this surface being etched away around the stud. The other electrode may be a gold-plated molybdenum disc having an aperture over which the diode is mounted. The diode emits infra-red radiation when energized.
