Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of general formula <FORM:0982081/C2/1> whose X is chlorine or fluorine, each of R2 and R3 is a hydrogen atom or a C1-5 alkyl or C1-5 alkoxy group, and R4 is an aroyl or C1-6 alkanoyl radical; and their preparation by reacting an alkali metal salt of a corresponding N-unsubstituted compound with an aroyl or alkanoyl halide. Compounds of the above general formula wherein R4 is a hydrogen atom, a C1-5 alkyl group or a C1-5 alkenyl group, and acid addition salts of the N-unsubstituted compounds, are also described; also their preparation by (1) reaction of o-fluorobenzoic acid or a derivative thereof or o-fluorobenzaldehyde with a compound of formula <FORM:0982081/C2/2> where R1 is hydrogen, alkyl or alkenyl, and (2) reaction of alkali metal salts with alkylating or alkenylating agents.ALSO:Compositions useful in the prevention and treatment of helminth infections in animals comprise compounds of the general formula <FORM:0982081/A5-A6/1> where R0 is a hydrogen atom or a C1-5 alkyl, C1-5 alkenyl, C1-6 alkanoyl or aroyl group, each of R2 and R3 is a hydrogen atom or a C1-5 alkyl or C1-5 alkoxy group, and X is chlorine or fluorine, or an acid addition salt of a compound wherein R0 is hydrogen, intimately dispersed in or admixed with an orally administrable carrier vehicle.
