Abstract

The invention comprises 11-oxahexadecanolide and a process for the preparation thereof by heating 11-oxa-16-hydroxyhexadecanic acid to form a polyester which is thereafter lactonized by, for example, co-distillation with glycerol. 11-oxa-16-hydroxyhexadecanic acid may be prepared by the reaction of 10-chlorodecanic acid with the monosodium compound of pentanediol-1.5. Specifications 490,044, 655,428, 793,555 and U.S.A. Specifications 2,163,109 and 2,202,448 are referred to.ALSO:A perfumed composition comprising 11-oxahexadecanolide and one or more other substances which may or may not have odoriferous properties is employed in soap preparations. The examples relate to "Lavender" and "Heno" perfume compositions comprising 11-oxahecadecanolide. Specifications 490,044, 655,428, 793,555 and U.S.A. Specifications 2,163,109 and 2,202,448 are referred to.ALSO:A perfumed composition comprising 11-oxahexadecanolide and one or more other substances which may or may not have odoriferous properties is employed in cosmetic preparations.
