Abstract
Dichlorobutenes are produced by reacting chlorine with excess butadiene at elevated temperatures in the vapour phase, the reaction product is cooled and fed to an intermediate point of a distillation column in which unreacted butadiene and hydrogen chloride are separated as an overhead fraction, most of which is recycled, the remainder is contacted with cooled dichlorobutenes to extract the butadiene and the solution thus obtained is fed to an intermediate point in the distillation column. The amount of overhead fraction contacted with dichlorobutenes varies inversely with the amount of hydrogen chloride in the fraction. The liquid dichlorobutenes are obtained from the base product of the distillation column, and are cooled to - 30 DEG to 0 DEG C. Specification 798,028 is referred to.
