Abstract
The invention relates to compounds of the formula A-CO-CH2-CH2-Y, in which A is a naphthyl, anthracyl or 3-nitro-4-chlorophenyl group and Y is an amino, substituted amino or amine salt group. The compounds are obtainable by reacting an appropriate arylmethyl ketone with an amine salt and formaldehyde. In an example, 1-naphthyl-b -dimethylaminoethyl ketone is prepared by refluxing a mixture of 1-naphthylmethyl ketone, dimethylamine hydrochloride, paraformaldehyde and hydrochloric acid in ethyl alcohol. The free base is obtainable by treating the product with sodium hydroxide. The picrate and ferrocyanide of the product are obtainable by precipitation from an aqueous solution of the product with the corresponding acid.
