Abstract

A dry extract of fresh herbs is prepared by freezing the fresh herbs, finely grinding the frozen herbs to form a pulp, thawing and squeezing the pulp to expel a liquid extract and spray-drying the liquid extract to produce a powdery dry extract. A solvent or a mixture of solvents for the active ingredients of the herbs may be added to the pulp after the grinding operation. Specified herbs are digitalis purpurea, Digitalis lanata, Papover somniferum, Datura stramonium and atropa belladonna.
