Abstract

Hydrazides of formula Y-CONH-NH2 wherein Y is a phenyl, substituted phenyl, or heterocyclic radical, are prepared by heating the corresponding carboxylic ester with hydrazine or hydrazine hydrochloride. The hydrazides may then be converted into hydrazones by reaction with aldehydes or ketones, or into semicarbazides by treatment with a cyanate, or into the corresponding p-toluene sulphonyl hydrazides by reaction with p-toluene sulphonyl chloride. The preparation of the following compounds is described:-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid hydrazide, p-[b 1-(b -n-butoxy-ethoxy)-ethoxy]-benzioc acid hydrazide, p-cetyl-sulphonamido-benzoic acid hydrazide, 3-amino-4-[b -(p-iso-octyl phenoxy)-ethoxy]-benzoic acid hydrazide acetone hydrazone, a -(2-hexadecenyl)-p-hydrazinocarbonyl-succinanilic acid, p-decyloxy benzoic acid hydrazide, 5-(n-hexadecyl sulphonamido) isophthalic dihydrazide, 3-(41-carboxyphenyl-sulphonamido)-4-(n-hexadecyloxy)-benzoy hydrazide, N-benzoyl-N1-p-tolusulphonyl hydrazide, 4-(o -carboxy-decyloxy)-benzoyl hydrazide, 4-methoxy-benzoyl semicarbazide, 5-(o -carboxy-decyl-sulphonamido)-isophthalic acid dihydrazide, and p - (2-hexadecenyl - succinoylamino)-benzoyl hydrazide propional hydrazone. These compounds are used as assistants in the production of colour corrected images in the processing of photographic films (see Division G2).
