Abstract
979,964. Transistor switching circuits. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. May 3, 1962 [May 19, 1961], No. 17089/62. Heading H3T. In a transistor switching circuit having an inductive load, e.g. magnetic memory elements Lc, in the collector circuit of a switching transistor T 1 , a further inductor Le is provided in the emitters circuit to prevent saturation of the transistor and collector current overshoot when the transistor is initially rendered conducting. As described, the steady current through the NPN transistor T 1 when conducting is determined by a potential Va which is normally prevented from being applied to the base by diode 24. When PNP transistor T 2 is rendered conducting by a negative pulse on its base diode 24 conducts, and the base of transistor T 1 is clamped to Va volts to render it conductive. In order to limit the current rise time the value of the inductor Le is at least as large relative to Lc as Va is to the applied collector potential Vcc.
