Abstract
1,061,827. Ignition systems. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Aug.31, 1965 [Sept. 16, 1964], No.37201/65. Heading F1B. An ignition system in which,a transistor 12 controls the current flow in the primary winding 18 of the ignition coil comprises circuit means coupled to the base electrode and responsive to opening and closing of points 32 to render the transistor respectively non-conductive and conductive and means including an emitter resistor 14 to cause the transistor to conduct in a saturated manner during the early part of current build up therethrough when the points are closed and to limit maximum current flow therethrough to a predetermined operating value means including the emitter resistor may comprise at least one diode connected between the base and emitter electrodes through the emitter resistor. The circuit means may include a second transistor 24, but a circuit employing no driving transistor is described. A modification of Fig. 1 in which additional current limiting is provided is described.
