Abstract
979,000. Travelling cranes. KINS DEVELOPMENT Ltd. Oct. 2, 1962 [Oct. 10, 1961], No. 36321/61. Heading B8B. In a travelling crane the bridge 1, Fig. 1, is attached to one of the end supports by a pivot 4 so that irregularities in the track do not produce torsional stresses in the bridge. The end 5 of the bridge fits into a slot in the end 2 to restrict undesirable movement. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2, a bridge 10 is supported on a trolley 11 by a shear-weak rubber bearing 12 and connected to the trolley by pivoted links 14. In a third embodiment, Fig. 3, a bridge 20 is rigidly connected to end members comprising legs 21, 22. The legs of one end member are connected to bogies 23 by links 24 which ensure that rotation of the bridge occurs about a virtual centre 25 which lies above the centre of gravity 27 thereby maintaining stability. The legs of the other end member may be attached to the bogies either rigidly or by simple pivots. The bogies 23 may be joined together rigidly or by a pivoted link 28. Damping devices may be provided on all the embodiments to counter oscillatory motion of the bridge in torsion. Specification 921,052 is referred to.
