Abstract

978,900. Induction flow meters. KABUSHIKI KAISHA HOKUSHIN DENKI SEISAKUSHO. Nov. 6, 1961 [Nov. 7, 1960(2)], No. 39647/61. Heading G1N. In an electromagnetic flow meter the magnetising windings on either side of the diametral plane through the measuring electrodes, each comprise a set of separately wound coils 5, 6 Fig. 1 which are symmetrically and similarly arranged on the two semi-cylindrical surfaces of the flow pipe 1 and the number of turns in each coil is a cosine function of the angle, of the position of the straigh portions of the coil relative to the diametral plane. The flowing fluid is screened electrostatically by a plurality of thin metallic rings 4 of stainless steel separated by insulating material and earthed through a common conducting strip. A laminated core 7 is provided around the outside of the coils and separator plates 14, Fig. 2, between them. Leads 13 from the electrodes which are domes protruding from the inner surface of the pipe are led to a terminal box 12 via a groove in the outer surface of the pipe. The coils are A.C. energized and the arrangement is said to produce a homogenous field requiring less energizing current than heretofore. The thickness of the laminated magnetic core is at least one millimetre.
