Abstract
978,892. Diene cyanohydrins. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Feb. 9, 1962 [March 10, 1961], No. 8773/61. Heading C2C. The invention comprises the compounds of formula CH 2 =CH-CR(OH)CH 2 CN, where R is a group -CR 1 R 2 R 3 where R 1 -R 3 are each hydrogen or methyl, or R is phenyl which may be substituted by one or more alkyl groups, or by an alkoxy group in the o- and/or p-position; and their production by reacting a diene CH 2 =CHCR=CH 2 with HOCl or HOBr, and reacting the resulting diene chlorohydrin or bromohydrin with an inorganic cyanide. Specified groups R are methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, t-butyl, phenyl, tolyl and methoxyphenyl. The compounds of the invention may be dehydrated, e.g. by heating with K 2 CO 3 , to give cyano dienes. An example prepares isoprene cyanohydrin, via the chlorohydrin, and dehydrates this to 1- cyano-1, 3-isoprene.
