Press for bending sheet metal between an upper tool and a V-shaped lower tool is characterized in that the bottom tool comprises a plurality of separate elements. A sheet 12 is bent between an upper tool 14, secured to a fixed platen 3 by ties 8 and screws 9, and a lower tool comprising a plurality of V-shaped elements 4 disposed side by side and secured to a movable lower platen 2 by straps 5, screws 16 and wedges 6. For wide sheets the elements 4 are spaced apart. Rollers 11 are provided at the ends of arms 4b of the elements 4 to facilitate movement of the sheet 12. Making the lower bending tool.-Seatings 4c are pierced in bosses 4d on the arms 4b of a V-element 4 and the portions of the bosses 4d shown in dotted lines are removed, e.g. by oxygen cutting. The rollers 11 are then disposed in the seatings.
