Abstract

728,927. Making reticulated sheets. GLOBE CO. Oct. 10, 1952 [Oct. 12, 1951; March 8, 1952], No. 25405/52. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). Shearing.-In making reticulated sheets for gratings &c. aluminium or steel sheets are formed centrally with corrugated' slits transversely of the sheet, Fig. 10, and the slits are opened out by blank punches to set the corrugaged edges normal to the plane of the sheet, Fig. 2. The sheets are fed intermittently by roller or other means between cutters 150, 160, 170, 180 cooperating with cutters 190, 200, 210, 220 on reciprocated bolsters 120, 110. On the first descent of a head 110 four corrugated slits A, B, Fig. 10, are made by the cutters 170, 180. The sheet is then fed a distance equal to twice the spacing of the cutters 170, 180 and alternate three corrugation slits C, D are made on the next descent. The sheet then passes under straightening dies 250, 260. The sheet is guided by lower spring-supported plates, one with a guide edge, and is clamped at the edges by co-operating spring-pressed plates, Fig. 6 (not shown), which carry a punch for forming a registration hole 500 in the edge of the sheet and registering pins which locate the sheet after each feed movement. Upper and lower bolster plates 130, 140 carry oval section punches 310, 270 which bend the edges of the slits and diamond section punches 300, 280 which open further the apertures formed by the slits to form corrugated projections 12, Fig. 2, joined by saddles 13. The bolsters 130, 140 may be guided on rods 480 to form a sub-press mechanism, Fig. 6 (not shown). Instead of punched marginal holes and pins for positioning the sheet a notch may be sheared from the edge of the sbeet to co-operate with a cut-off part of the guide edge, Fig. 11 (not shown).
