978,827. Drying-apparatus. HALL & KAY Ltd. Oct. 11, 1963 [July 12, 1962], No. 26786/62. Heading F4G. Apparatus for drying articles such as photographic films comprises a chamber 15, in which is slidably mounted a frame 41 with transverse rods 43 for the articles, and a box 21 containing a hydroscopic agent, e.g. silica gel, a damper 36 and plate 33 being operatively connected whereby, when they are in the full-line positions shown in Fig. 3, air may be recirculated by a blower 26 through an inlet 29 therein to conduits 18, 14, through a filter 38 and on to the articles, and back to the blower after passing through the hygroscopic agent. Should an indicator in the agent show, by changing colour, that the agent has a high moisture content, the articles having been removed by sliding the frame out along rails 39 and through a door 11, the damper 36 and plate 33 are shifted so that the chamber 15 and conduit 18 communicate with atmosphere through louvres 34, 32 respectively. A heating element 24 (Fig. 6, not shown) in the box 21 is then energized, and the blower 26 draws atmospheric air through the louvres 34, chamber 15 and the box 21 into the conduit 18 and out through the louvre 32, thus regenerating the hygroscopic agent.
