Abstract

978,798. Suitcase type handles; suction cleaners. HOOVER Ltd. Aug. 13, 1963 [Aug. 14, 1962], No. 32010/63. Headings A4F and A4G. [Also in Division E2] A suction cleaner comprises a casing having a base 15 and hinged cover 12, Fig. 5 with a rectangular opening 30 formed in the cover and base side wall through which a flexible suction tube 52 passes and in which a shallow U-handle 73, Figs. 4, 5 is pivoted at 76 so that it lines the opening when swung inwards out of use and hinges outwards for carrying. The bottom of the opening is lined with a channel section 33 embracing the pivot pin 76, having a flange 41 to which is hinged a bifurcated plate 44 into which the filter bag 45 is slid and supported in the suction chamber 19, access to which is obtained through an opening 20 covered by a lid 21 hinged to a platform 17. Section 33 is extended at its ends to provide upstanding hooks 56 to be engaged by anti-clockwise spring-loaded latches 57 hingedly secured by screws to depending posts 65 on the cover 12 and unlatched by inserting the operator's hand through the opening and pressing on latch flange 67 in a clockwise direction. Out of use the tube 52 is coiled around the elbow 51 and the cover closed.
