977,688. Photo-electric brightness indicators. EASTMAN KODAK CO. July 26, 1963 [July 30, 1962], No. 29669/63. Addition to 941,697. Heading G1A. [Also in Divisions G2 and G4] A brightness indicating device comprises a photo-electric cell receiving light from a predetermined angular field and a measuring instrument energized by the photo-cell and having a member movable in a first direction in response to the energization and biased in the opposite direction, the member completing a circuit including a battery, an indicator lamp and the measuring instrument when the field brightness is below a predetermined level, the current in said circuit lighting the lamp and deflecting the member in the first direction. The photo-cell 10 energizes the meter 12 in accordance with illumination and when the latter is below the predetermined level, the pointer 20 meets contact 17 to energize a neon indicator lamp 18 and the meter 12 sufficiently to break the contact 17, 20. The lamp thus flashes so long as the illumination is below the predetermined level, the frequency of flash being inversely dependent on the illumination. The indicating device may be included in a cinematograph camera, in which case the angular field corresponds to that of the camera, the indication is visible in the viewfinder and a switch 16, closed by the camera release, is provided.
