Abstract
An anode-metal container for electroplating comprises a textile bag, means for suspending the bag from a current carrying rail so that the bag supports the entire mass of fragmentary anode metal, and a conductor arranged to maintain electrical contact between the rail and the fragmentary metal contents of the bag. As shown, the bag is made of a sleeve formed of <PICT:0977432/C6-C7/1> <PICT:0977432/C6-C7/2> two strips of twill-woven polypropylene which is turned back on itself, so as to form a double walled sleeve, over a supporting ring 4 to which are fixed supporting hooks 9, 10 protruding through slots in the fold, and the original ends of the sleeve are stitched up together to form a double-walled bag. A loop 13 of titanium- or titanium alloy-sheathed copper wire is cranked at 14, 15 to lie along the supporting hooks to which it is secured by copper clips 18, 19 so that a good contact is made due to the weight of the loaded bag between the wire, slips and a current-carrying supporting rail. The ring 4 is preferably of titanium or titanium alloy as are the hooks 9, 10 while the wire is stripped of its titanium coating where it is engaged by the copper clips. An alternative named material for the bag which also acts as a filter for the anode material, e.g. nickel pellets, is polyethylene terephthalate, but other natural or synthetic materials not affected by the plating electrolyte may be used. The supporting hook and conductor may consist of a single titanium member.
