Abstract

976,946. Batteries. RANSOMES SIMS & JEFFERIES Ltd. June 24, 1963 [June 26, 1962], No. 24519/62. Heading H1B. A battery casing 1 is provided on opposite sides with lifting lugs 7 which are slidably mounted against the side walls so as to be movable between a retracted position in which they are below the top of the side wall and a lifting position in which part of the lugs project above the top of the side walls, each lug 7 being provided with means, e.g. an aperture 13, which lies above the top of the side wall when the lug is in the lifting position for securing the lug to a lifting device. Each lug slides in a rectangular aperture formed by a channelshaped member 5 secured to the respective side wall 3 and its movement is limited by a stop 11 welded thereto. Alternatively the lugs may be guided between metal strips. The apertures 13 are engaged by the hooks of a crane thus enabling the battery to be moved.
