976,373. Laminates; moulding multicoloured rubber carpets. ARTICOLI GOMMA AFFINI, S.p.A. Feb. 15, 1962 [March 24, 1961], No. 5824/62. Headings B5A and B5N. A mat or carpet of rubber or PVC having a design in at least two colours is made by covering a base layer 1 of the material with different coloured material of the shape required 2, placing the two in a heated suction mould and applying suction until the portion of the layer 1 not in contact with the pattern 2 is made coplanar with the exposed, wearing, surface of the pattern 2. The mat is then vulcanized or fused. Materials which can be used are rubber or polyvinyl chloride or a composition of rubber and a synthetic resin.
