Abstract

976,247. Masted lift trucks. ELECTRO-HYDRAULICS Ltd. Feb. 1, 1962 [Jan. 19, 1961], No. 2260/61. Heading B8H. A three-section mast of a fork-lift truck comprises a lower section including inwardly facing channel members 4, secured to the truck chassis, an intermediate section including outwardly facing channel members 7 slidably mounted on the members 4, and an upper section including outwardly facing channel members 10 slidably mounted on the members 7 and on which the load carriage 19 is slidably mounted, and the mast is extended by a hydraulic ram having a piston and hollow telescopic piston-rods, the innermost piston-rod being secured to the lower mast section. The channel members 4 are provided with rollers 14 guiding the channel members 7 which are provided with rollers 13 running on the members 4 and with rollers 17, 18 guiding the members 10. The upper mast section is substantially in the same transverse vertical plane as the lower mast section. The ram comprises a cylinder 24, a piston 25 secured to the channel members 10, and piston-rods 26, 27. On supplying fluid to the inlet 28, when the mast is fully retracted, the fluid passes through ducts 29, 30, 31 to the cylinder space 32 to raise the cylinder 24 on the piston 25, thereby raising the load carriage 19 to the top of the members 10, Fig. 3, by chains 36 which are anchored to the load carriage 19 and to members 37 on the piston 25 and which pass over pulleys 35 on the cylinder 24. The carriage is locked at the top of the members 10 and further increase in the fluid pressure causes the piston 25 to rise on the piston-rod 26 thereby raising the members 10 on the members 4. Further increase in the fluid pressure then causes the piston 25 and piston-rod 26 to rise on the piston-rod 27 thereby raising further the channel members 10 which pulls up the channel members 7 relative to the channel members 4 by engagement of stop blocks at the lower ends of members 10 which engage rollers at the upper ends of the channel members 7. The latch mechanism 38, Fig. 7, for locking the load carriage 19 at the top of channel members 10 comprises a lever 40 pivoted at 41 to a cross-brace between the members 10 and spring-urged in a clockwise direction. When the members 10 are raised after the cylinder 24 has risen to the top of the piston 25, one end 43 of the lever 40 is raised from an adjustable stop 44 mounted at the top of the channel members 4 thereby allowing the spring to urge the lever into engagement with a block 45 on the cylinder 24 to lock the piston and cylinder together.
