976,062. Pneumatic tyres. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DES ETABLISSEMENTS MICHELIN RAISON SOC. MICHELIN & CIE, May 17, 1963, No. 19825/63. Heading B7C. The tread of an on-and-off-the-road tyre comprises lugs extending from the edges thereof to the mid-circumferential plane of the tyre, each lug being formed by at least two blocks 4 disposed substantially in line with each other, the mean direction of the lug making, with the mid-circumferential plane of the tyre an angle of less than 45 degrees and each block 4 tapering towards the mid-circumferential plane at an angle of at least 10 degrees. The blocks 4 of each lug are separated by a groove 5, a notch 6 on a restriction 7. Because of the taper of the blocks 4, the forward edge of each lug (in relation to the normal direction of rotation of the tyre), may be inclined at an angle of more than 45 degrees to the mid-circumferential plane of the tyre to reduce the tendency of a tyre to dig into soft ground. In section through A-A in Fig. 2, the forward and rear faces of each block 4 are inclined, to the radii of the tyre which terminate at the edges of the block, at angles of at least 15 degrees and a minimum respectively.
