Abstract
A homogeneous aerosol composition for producing a foam of limited stability comprises, by weight, (1) 26 to 64% of a saturated aliphatic monohydric alcohol containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms or a dialkyl ketone in which the alkyl groups contain 1 to 3 carbon atoms, (2) 28% to 64% of glycerol, a monoalkylene glycol in which the alkylene group contains 2 to 4 carbon atoms, or a polyalkylene glycol in which the alkylene groups contain 2 to 4 carbon atoms, (3) 0.5% to 5% of a surface-active agent, and (4) 2% to 30% of a liquefied normally gaseous propellant, the surface-active agent being soluble in either (1) or (2) but not in both and the propellant being soluble in either (1) or (2) and having a solubility not exceeding 15% by weight in the other. Component (1) may be ethyl, n-propyl or iso-propyl alcohol, acetone or methylethyl ketone; (2) may be glycerol or ethylene, diethylene, triethylene, tetraethylene, propylene, or 1 : 3-butylene glycol or a polyethylene glycol of M.W. 200, 400, or 600. Either component may be a mixture. The wetting agent may be a fatty acid-ethylene oxide condensate, nonyl phenoxy-polyoxyethylene ethanol, glyceryl monostearate, diglycol laurate or oleate, sulphated fatty alcohols or fatty acids, or a quaternary ammonium salt. The propellant may be a chlorofluorinated hydrocarbon.
