Abstract

The invention comprises propanolamine derivatives of the formula <FORM:0975597/C1/1> wherein R and R1 are each a hydrogen atom or a methoxy group and their physiologically tolerable acid addition salts, and the preparation of these compounds by (a) reacting a b -[1-phenylpropyl-(2)-amino]-propionic acid alkyl ester with the appropriate phenyl lithium compound or phenyl magnesium halide; (b) reacting a b -[1-phenylpropyl-(2)-amino]-ethyl phenyl ketone with a phenyl lithium compound or phenyl magnesium halide; (c) reducing phenylacetone in the presence of a 3,3-diphenyl-3-hydroxy-propylamine; (d) reacting a 1-phenyl-2-halo-propane with a 3,3-diphenyl -3- hydroxypropylamine and (e) reducing an N-[3-phenylpropyl-(2)]-3, 3-diphenyl -3- hydroxy-propionamide preferably with lithium aluminium hydride. Processes (a), (b) and (e) above may be carried out by using the corresponding N-benzyl compounds as starting materials and subsequently removing the benzyl group from the resulting N-benzyl compounds by catalytic hydrogenation. 3, 3-Diphenyl -3- hydroxy-propylamine and 3-phenyl -3- (m-methoxyphenyl) -3- hydroxy -propylamine are made by reduction of the corresponding nitriles. b -[N-Benzyl -N- (1-phenylpropyl-(2))]-amino-propionic acid ethyl ester is prepared by reacting b -chloropropionic acid ethyl ester with N-benzyl-N-[1-phenylpropyl-(2)]-amine. b -[N-Benzyl -N- (1-phenylpropyl-(2))]-amino propiophenone is prepared by reaction of b -chloropropiophenone and N-benzyl -N- [1-phenylpropyl-(2)]-amine. Pharmaceutical preparations for treatment of the cardiac and vascular blood circulation comprise the above compounds of the invention, preferably in admixture or conjunction with a carrier suitable for oral or parenteral administration.
