Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0974712/C1/1> wherein Y is a hydrogen or a fluorine atom or a methoxy group; X is a -CH2- or a -CH=CH-residue; n is a positive integer less than 4 and "lower alkyl" is a C1-4-alkyl group. The bases form salts with inorganic and organic acids (including ascorbic acid) and quaternary ammonium salts with esters of alkanols and aralkanols. The compounds of the invention may be prepared by reacting an appropriate aralkyl or aralkenyl halide with a 4-alkoxy-4-phenylpiperidine or by reducing a ketone of the formula <FORM:0974712/C1/2> to the alcohol and subsequently dehydrating this to the unsaturated compound, or by hydrogenation of the unsaturated compound (where n is less than 3). 2-(4-Fluorophenyl) -1- chloroethane is prepared from the ethanol and thionyl chloride.
