In a variable capacitor assembly, comprising a pair of ganged units, rotors 2, 5 are attached to a rotatable shaft 1 and stators 3, 4 are mounted in a cylinder 11 within a frame structure 14 such that the relative positions of the rotors and stators can be adjusted and matched during assembly of the capacitor. Each rotor is provided with an electrode 21 and attached to the shaft 1 by a retaining member 7 whose arms engage in circular depressions or holes 6 in the back of the rotor. The holes 6 are filled with cement 9 and sufficiently large in diameter to permit adjustment of the position of the rotor before the cement is applied. Rotation of the shaft 1 is limited to 180 degrees by a lug 18 attached to the shaft and engaging in a recess in structure 14. The stators 3, 4 are fitted with lugs 10 engaging in slots 12 in the cylinder 11 and pressed against the rotors by a spring 22, the stator electrodes 20 being printed on sheets 19 of dielectric material, e.g. a ceramic material. The cylinder 11 is provided with lugs 13 which engage in somewhat larger slots 15 in the frame structure 14 and is fixed by cement 17. The slots 15 permit adjustment of the position of the stators relative to the rotors before the cement 17 is applied.
