Abstract

974,187. Electric component assemblies. SHORT BROS. & HARLAND Ltd. June 25, 1963 [July 9, 1962], No. 26163/62. Heading H1R. In an electrical assembly, components are mounted singly or in sub-assemblies upon two or more lamellar component carrier units which, when assembled, are fixed in a mutually parallel arrangement, there being a further carrier unit constituting a distribution board to which the components on the component-carrier units are connected by flexible conductors anchored to edges of the respective units in such manner that, when the apparatus is partially disassembled, the component-carrier units may be spread in a common planar arrangement outwardly of the distribution board while retaining their physical connection thereto. As shown, Figs. 1, 2, annular component carrier units A, B, D, E, F having components printed or mounted thereon, are held in spaced coaxial array together with a screening-plate C and a distribution board G by means of tubular distance-pieces N, and notched metal or other support strips P which engage the edges of members A ... G. A base-plate H incorporates a cylindrical casing H2 which accommodates a gyroscope J, and a battery R is axially located within the distance-pieces N. The circuits and components may be coated with a protective layer of, e.g. silicone rubber, and the whole assembly may be sealed within a cylindrical container S. Connection between circuit elements on units A, B, D, E, F and distribution board G are effected by means of flexible strip connectors Q which are positioned so that, when the units are disassembled, they may be spread in one plane as shown in Fig. 4.
