Abstract

973,806. Lubricating systems. TECALEMIT Ltd. Dec. 4, 1961 [Dec. 22, 1960], No. 44052/60. Heading F2A. [Also in Divisions F1 and H2] A lubricating system wherein lubricant is delivered to different points in a motor vehicle comprises a solenoid-operated pump 3 which receives lubricant via a supply pipe 5 from a reservoir 4, and a control switch 1 of the rotary cam type which is driven from a rotating port of the vehicle e.g. the gear-box and which effects energization of the solenoid to actuate the pump. Located coaxially in the body 8 of the pump are primary and secondary windings of the solenoid, connected in series, and a reciprocating armature 10 having a spring-loaded rod 12, located coaxially therein, the lower end of which contacts a piston formed by a rod 26 which in turn is biased by a spring 27 so that piston and armature remain in axial contact. The stem portion 9 of the body 8 houses a cylinder 18 within which the piston 26 is slidably located and which carries a spring- loaded ball type check valve 23 which closes the axial bore in the cylinder 18. Lubricant is supplied to the cylinder from the reservoir 4 via port 20 and is discharged through ports 21 via the check valve 23 by the reciprocating action of the piston when the solenoid is energized. The lubricant discharge ports 21 communicate with an annular chamber 22 between disc-shaped plates 29, 30. The lower plate 30 houses a number of lubricant connectors 32 and pipes 33, connecting the pump to the various points in the system. The upper plate 29 is provided with an aperture 34 to receive an air vent line. The operation of the rotary switch 1 energizes the primary winding of the solenoid which draws the armature 10 and rod 12 upwards. At the upper limit of its travel the rod 12 opens the shorting switch 15 to permit energization of the secondary winding to reduce the current flow. The rotary switch 1 subsequently breaks the circuit and the piston and armature are forced downwards by the spring 16 to discharge lubricant through the ports 21 and pipes 33 to the points in the system.
