Abstract
973,668. Electric thermal storage space heaters. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. July 18, 1963 [June 15, 1962], No. 23137/62. Heading F4U. An electric thermal-stor age space heater comprises a heat storage mass 2, anc heat insulating material 3 giving greater thermal in sulation at the back of the heater than at the front. In the embodiment des- cribed, the block of refractory material 2 lies within a metal easing 1 with a lid and is separated from it by layers of glass fibre, the back layer 4 being thicker than the front layer 6. An electric heating element 10 is wound through the horizontal passages 11 which lie in one vertical plane and then through those which lie in the other. The vertical distance between the passages is greater towards the centre region of the block. The vertically extending recess 12 is bordered on one side by the brick 14 and glass fibre pad 9. A guard of expanded metal covers the front surface of the heater. A composite heater may be formed from two or more of the heaters described.
