Abstract
973,115. Preheating furnace charges. GLAVERBEL. Dec. 15, 1961 [Dec. 16, 1960], No. 45121/61. Heading F4B. In the manufacture of glass in a shaft furnace 1, granular raw materials fed through a hopper 6 on to a perforated, vibratory plate 13 suspended on springs 15 are distributed over a preheater 9 comprising sheet metal elements 10 defining vertical channels 11. A modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), has partitions dividing the preheater into eight sectors, and another, Fig. 4 (not shown), has continguous, vertical metal tubes. The metal elements may be replaced by ceramic-metal, or ceramic elements and may consist of chains instead of sheet metal. Perforations in the plate 13 may be proportional to the rate of flow of hot gases through the channels.
