973,042. Apparatus for sterilizing milk &c. in bottles &c. GEBR. STORK & CO.'S APPARATENFABRIEK N.V. March 9, 1962 [March 14, 1961], No. 9104/62, Heading A2D. In an apparatus for the treatment of commodities packed in containers e.g. the sterilization or pasteurization of milk in bottles in which the containers are transported in tube shaped carriers along a track within a treatment chamber having located along the track a device for feeding the containers to and a device for removing the containers from the carriers, the container removing device comprises at least one liquid injection nozzle mounted opposite and directed towards one of the ends presented by each carrier in passing, while opposite the other end a container receiving surface is provided. Filled milk bottles 2, Fig. 1, in tubular containers 1 are conveyed sideways through a treatment chamber 3 and on reaching a point opposite an aperture 4 are forced out of the containers 1, by a jet of water from a nozzle 5, on to a conveyer 7 against a stop 9. The stop 9 is operated to allow one bottle at a time to pass on to a righting device 10. The conveyer 7 may be perforated or comprise a number of small strip belts to allow the water to drain down into a tank 13 from where it is pumped, after passing a filter 15, back to the nozzle 5. In another embodiment the carriers comprise eight tubes 22 mounted around the circumference of a circle, Fig. 5. These carriers are rotatably mounted on, and carried through the treatment chamber by two parallel endless chains 28. Sited at the discharge point is a plate 31 through which extend eight short tubes 32 and opposite each tube 32 a water nozzle is mounted. On reaching the discharge point a star wheel 29 mounted at one end of the carriers engages the tubes 32 and water is discharged through each nozzle and tube 32 as they align with their respective tubes 22.
