Abstract

972,980. Washing gases. METALLGESELLSCHAFT A.G. Jan. 22, 1963 [Jan. 30, 1962], No. 2757/63. Heading B1R. In a gas washing apparatus the gas to be washed is passed upwardly through a bed of wetted spherical bodies confined between perforated plates Gb and fluidized by the upflowing gas, a circulatory motion being given to the spherical bodies by injecting washing liquid radially or tangentially from a side of the bed as shown at Se or from above and towards the side of the bed as shown at Oe. The space between the plates Gb may be divided into compartments by vertical baffles and the spherical bodies therein sprayed jointly or severally. Alternatively the spherical bodies may be contained in wire cages which may be divided into compartments. The plates Gb may be arranged inclined to the horizontal and the spherical bodies may be of wood or plastic. They may be hollow or the hollows may be filled with a light foamed material.
