Abstract

972,223. Spark erosion. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Aug. 26, 1963, No. 33755/63. Heading B3V. A slot 4 is machined in a workpiece 1 to interconnect two spaced apertures 2, 3 by spark erosion using a wire or strip electrode 6 extending between the ends of two parallel guide members 7, 8 positioned in line with the apertures. Guide tubes 7, 8 may be of stainless steel and may have jewel end bearings or they may be of alumina. Alternatively the guide members may be rods with end slots for the electrode 6. The latter may be fed continuously or stepwise. Workpiece 1 is for use as an evaporation mask in the manufacture of elements for cryogenic computors.
