The invention provides a system for digitizing the output of a resolver, and comprises a reference signal which is passed direct, and also via the resolver, to a phase comparator, the output of the comparator being digitized. Means are provided to multiply the phase shift of the signals applied to the comparator and to digitize this to provide a second order measurement of the resolver displacement. Resolver 20, Fig. 1 produces a phase shift in a reference signal fed to it, and this signal is compared with the reference signal by unit 24. The resultant signal represents the most significant digit, which is displayed at 28. The phase shifted signal is also multiplied by ten at 30 and mixed with the reference signal, which has been multiplied by nine. After detection at 36 a signal is obtained which represents the second digit. Further multiplication of the phase shifted signal and mixing with the reference signal provides, upon detection, the third digit. In a second embodiment, Fig. 7, (not shown), there is means to correct for phase errors caused by the velocity of the resolver.
