A collapsible structure is formed from a series of parallel rigid slats 1, preferably of wood, connected together on one side by one or more flexible bands 2, preferably of metal, and formed at the edges 4, 5 so that they fit together closely when the structure is flat but can be rolled into compact form, the arrangement being such that, when the structure is flat, the bands are in tension and the slats are in compression. The bands 2 are arranged substantially at right angles to the edges of the slats and are attached to each slat substantially midway between its edges. To prevent collapse, one or more rigid bars 8 are removably mounted in troughs 7 on the faces of the slats remote from the bands.
