The automatic voltage control circuit of the parent Specification, which includes a positive gain amplifier, is modified by the provision of means for applying to the input of the positive gain amplifier a temporary signal derived from a "hold" control whereby, when controlling the drive of tandem rolling mills for instance, the actual speed of the mill may be "held" during an acceleration or deceleration period at the instant a "hold" switch is operated.
