In a dishwashing machine comprising a washing chamber with dish racks and a rotary main spray member 1 an auxiliary spray device 4 is provided which discharges a liquid jet 6 in an upward direction to impinge against and be redirected on to the dishes by the roof of the machine or a deflector member 10. The deflector 10 may be a simple curved surface or contain a rotatable member with a plurality of blades. The flow of liquid to the rotary spray 1 and the auxiliary device 4 is so arranged that only a minor proportion passes through the auxiliary spray device.
