969,537. Semi-automatic exchange systems. TELEPHONE MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. Oct. 2, 1962 [Oct. 11, 1961], No. 36537/61. Heading H4K. In a semi-automatic PBX comprising switching equipment controlled by a cordless switchboard, parts of the sequence in which the keys have to be pressed are indicated by visual signals. As shown, the cordless switchboard comprises a pair of non-locking keys SP, CON for each of six extensions 1-6 and each of the exchange lines E1, E2. Every key has a signalling lamp built into it. Incoming and extension, to extension calls.- When an extension lifts his handset the appropriate " speak " key, SP, flashes and the operator's bell rings. The operator lifts the handset and presses the flashing SP key which then glows steadily and the corresponding " connect " key, CON, flashes. When the required extension has been ascertained, the flashing CON key is pressed and glows steadily whilst the SP key goes out. The SP key of the required extension is now depressed and glows steadily whilst ringing current is applied to the line. When the extension answers the SP key goes out and the corresponding CON key flashes. The operator may offer the call to the extension before pressing the flashing CON key to complete the connection. Incoming calls from an exchange are dealt with using the same procedure. Outgoing calls.-The same procedure as above is employed by the operator to ascertain the required number. The operator presses the SP key of an idle exchange line, and receives dialling tone. The required number is then dialled and the CON key of the exchange line flashes and is pressed to connect the extension to the exchange line, the CON key then glowing steadily. Conference and night-service facilities are also provided and the operator may also be recalled by an extension and the call may be transferred. The separate connect keys may be replaced by a common " hold " key, a common " connect " key and individual supervisory lamps. Specification 958,663 is referred to.
