969,476. Coating apparatus. KAY & CO. (ENGINEERS) Ltd. March 13, 1961 [March 11, 1960], No. 8644/60. Heading B2B. A means for dispensing liquid into circumferential grooves in cylindrical sleeves comprises a support for the sleeve, at least one jet within the support, a supply of liquid to the jet or jets, means whereby the jet or each jet can move through a slot in the support to a groove, means whereby on said movement the liquid pressure to the jet or jets increases a predetermined amount and means for producing relative rotation between the sleeve and the jet or jets, the increase in pressure resulting in liquid passing from the or each jet on the rotational movement into a groove. As shown, the apparatus comprises a cylindrical casing 10 mounted on a base 10a, and carrying a hollow boss 11 on which stands a hollow sleeve 12 which sleeve supports a grooved sleeve S and has two opposite slots 13 through its walls. The boss 11 stands on a platform 14 which platform is carried by a rod 15 and tube 16 assembly around which is a spring 17. Tanks 25, which are adjacent to supply tanks 26, are connected via flexible pipes 24 and tubes 18 to the jets 19. The tubes are pivoted at 20 and each tube carries a cam 22 and a spring-loaded plunger 23 co-operates therewith. The whole assembly is carried by vertical shaft 33 with gear wheel 34 keyed on, the wheel being driven by an electric motor. In operation the sleeve S is pressed down on hollow sleeve 12 and is held against rotation. The said pressure results in the jets 19 moving down and out through the slots 13 so that they come into contact with a groove which contact causes liquid to flow from jets 19 and this continues throughout rotation of assembly. The lowering of jets 19 causes a pressure difference between them and tanks 25, this pressure difference being maintained by liquid passing from tanks 26 to tanks 25 to maintain a constant level of liquid in tanks 25. The apparatus may include means for indicating the completion of a liquid dispensing cycle and means for automatic cut-out.
