Abstract
A skin is formed on a foamed polyurethane by cooling the surface during foaming. In an example, foaming constituents may comprise: 332 grams of resin derived from epoxyhydroxyl compound reacted with a short chain organic oxide (specifically sorbitol with propylene oxide), 8 grams of a catalyst e.g. dibutyl tin dilaurate, 3 grams of silicone surfactant, a prepolymer made from 535 grams of the above resin having an NCO/OH ratio of from 3.0 to 4.5, and 135 grams of blowing agent-monofluorotrichloromethane. The prepolymer is maintained above 50 DEG F. and the resin at 90-100 DEG F. prior to mixing. Alternatively foams using CO2 gas generated by the interaction of diisocyanate and water may be used.
