Abstract

969,019. Controlling hydraulically operated mobile cranes. J. M. A. BLATCHFORD. June 15, 1962 [March 15, 1961], No. 9481/61. Heading B8B. An hydraulically operated mobile crane has two sets of control valves arranged in parallel, one set being on the crane structure and the other, which is connected to the crane through a rotary distributer to accommodate slewing movements, being in or adjacent the cab of the vehicle. In a first embodiment, Fig. 1, rams and/or motors 1-4 are actuated by fluid from a pump 5 through valves 8a-8d. Everything above the line X-X is on the crane whilst rings below the line are on the vehicle. A separate vehicle mounted pump 17 and reservoir 15 are provided. Control valves 14a-14d controlling the crane through a rotary distributer 25. One or more ancillary hydraulic devices are controlled by valves such as 14e. In a second embodiment the pump and reservoir on the crane are dispensed with and a selector valve determines which of the two banks of valves controls the crane. The selector valve may have a third position in which fluid is supplied to valves controlling auxiliary equipment. The valves may be remotely controlled by solenoids.
