Abstract

Gelatin derivatives are prepared by adding, whilst stirring at a temperature between 30 and 70 DEG C., a solution of pyromellitic dianhydride in a water-miscible organic solvent such as acetone or dimethyl formamide to an aqueous solution of gelatin the pH of which is kept alkaline. Specifications 492,162, 649,545, 649,546 and 906,908 are referred to.
