Abstract
968,824. Severing by burning. JAGENBERG-WERKE A.G. Aug. 26, 1963 [Sept. 25, 1962], No. 33683/63. Heading B4B. Paper in one or more layers is cut by means of one or more light beams of high energy content. As shown, a web 2 drawn from a reel 1, passed over a guide roller 3 and wound on a reel 5 is cut longitudinally by means of a monochromatic light beam 8 focused by means of a lens 7 at a point 9 coincident with the web. In a modification, the light beam may be moved relatively to a stationary web; the movement may be effected by moving the source of light, the means for focusing the light beam, or a reflector or refractor. If a travelling web is to be cut transversely into sheets, an oscillatory movement is imparted to the light beam.
