Armature slots 6, of a dynamo-electric machine, are insulated by placing substantially U-shaped pieces 5 of insulating material over the teeth so that the ends lie in adjacent slots 6 overlapping the ends of adjacent pieces 5. After the armature has been wound and varnished parts 5a are removed by machining. The slots are skewed.
