[Also in Division F2] A method of making a needle roller bearing comprises the forming of an outer race ring 1 with raceway 2 and inwardly directing flanges 7 and 8 and the subsequent heat treatment thereof. A roller cage is formed by punching parallel slots in a flat metal strip, rolling the strip into a cylindrical form and joining its ends. To assemble the cage and raceway, the cage is deformed so as to pass with clearance the side flanges of the raceway and is then reformed cylindrically, within the race ring which thus locates the cage. The needle rollers may be located in the cage slots or pockets either before or after the cage reforming process.
