In a transmission system, particularly a carrier system, having separate channels for the two directions, to check the condition of the repeaters, pulses of a frequency outside the transmission range are sent along the " go " channel and are transferred to the " return " channel through filters 3 at the repeaters. Each pulse from the generator 2 should therefore give rise to a succession of return pulses in the receiver 4, which may be an oscilloscope. The pulse frequency should be such that there is no overlap between the return pulses resulting from successive transmitted pulses, and the time-base frequency of the oscilloscope is preferably the same.
