Abstract

The invention relates to geranyl, octyl and benzyl crotonate and geranyl senecioate and geraryl tiglinate. These esters are prepared by reacting the free alcohol with either the free acid its methyl or its acid chloride. The compounds are used as deodorants (see Division A5).ALSO:An aerosol deodorant composition comprises one or more esters of the formula <FORM:0967335/C4-C5/1> where R is hydrogen or an alkyl group, R1 is an alkyl or phenyl group, R2 is hydrogen or an alkyl group and R3 is an alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl group and a pressurized propellant which is a compressed gas, e.g. nitrogen or air or a normally gaseous material maintained in the liquid phase in said composition under pressure, e.g. trichloro-monofluoromethane and dichlorodifluoromethane. The compositions may contain solvents, e.g. alcohols, glycols or hydrocarbons such as isopropyl alcohol, triethylene glycol and propylene glycol.ALSO:A method of deodorizing air containing malodorous impurities comprises spraying into the impure air a deodorant composition comprising one or more esters of the formula <FORM:0967335/A5-A6/1> in which R is hydrogen or an alkyl group, R1 is an alkyl or phenyl group, R2 is hydrogen or an alkyl group, and R3 is an alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl group. The composition may be in the form of a solution, an aerosol containing a pressurized propellant, which is a compressed gas e.g. nitrogen or air or a normally gaseous material maintained in the liquid phase in said composition under pressure e.g. trichloro monofluoro methane and dichloro difluoromethane. The solvents used in these compositions are alcohols, glycols and hydrocarbons such as isopropyl alcohol, triethylene glycol and propylene glycol. Specified esters are benzylcrotonate, geranyl crotonate, butyl crotonate, iso-amyl tiglinate, ethyl cinnamate, 3 - phenyl - 1 - propyl crotonate, 1 - menthyl senecioate amongst others (for preparation see Division C2). The composition may contain perfumes.
