Abstract

967, 243. Measuring force electrically. ROTAX Ltd. July 24, 1962 [Sept. 7, 1961], No. 32120/61. Headings G1N and G1V. In a force measuring apparatus comprising a load cell bridge 1 with a second bridge 3 of which two adjacent arms are constituted by a variable potential divider 4, 5, 6, the bridges being connected to the same source 2 and jointly feeding a difference amplifier 8 which drives a motor 9 to balance bridge outputs by adjusting slider 7 of the potential divider, the response is made more nearly linear by connection of a resistor 10 of suitable value between the slider 7 and a point in an area of the bridge 3. Applied force is shown on an indicator secured to the motor drawing shaft. The load cell bridge comprises two pairs of conductors, the members of each pair being secured to opposite faces of a rectangular block and each conductor being of parallel metal strips the ends of which are so joined by shorter transverse strips as to provide a continuous path for a current. The longer strips of one pair are arranged parallel to the intended direction of the applied force and those of the other pair at right angles thereto.
