Abstract

A gas filter element is made from gas filter paper lightly impregnated with a non-drying liquid which imparts fire-retardant properties to the paper. The liquid may be tritolyl phosphate, trixylyl phosphate, a liquid silicone, a fluorinated lubricating oil, a chlorinated paraffinic hydrocarbon or a mixture of chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons and phosphate esters. The paper may first be stiffened by impregnation with a synthetic resin, which may be cured before or after the application of the liquid. The treated strip may be creased and folded into a filter element.ALSO:Gas filter material comprises gas filter paper lightly impregnated with a non-drying liquid which imparts fire-retardant properties to the paper. The liquid may be tritolyl phosphate, trixylyl phosphate, a liquid silicone, a fluorinated lubricating oil, a chlorinated paraffinic hydrocarbon or a mixture of chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons and phosphate esters. The paper may first be stiffened by impregnation with a synthetic resin, which may be cured before or after the application of the liquid.
