966,458. Fluid-pressure brakes. ATELIERS DES CHARMILLES S.A. May 13, 1963 [June 21, 1962], No. 18792/63. Heading F2F. An indirect compressed air or vacuum control installation for brakes especially for rail vehicles comprises a main air feed conduit 1 leading to a control reservoir 6 through the intermediary of a filling device 40 and to an auxiliary reservoir 3, and a distributer 42 having a poppet valve 9 controlling the connection between the auxiliary reservoir 3 and a wheel brake cylinder 12, the movable part of the distributer being connected to a displaceable wall 15 separating chambers 2, 8 connected respectively to the main conduit 1 and the control reservoir 6. An exhaust valve 50 is also provided to permit one or more of the brake cylinder, control reservoir and auxiliary reservoir to be connected to atmosphere. A quick bolting device for the exhaust valve sensitive to the difference in pressures existing on both sides of the displaceable wall 15 is actuated by an existing member of the distributer. As shown, the exhaust valve 50 which is actuated by a spring- loaded slider 17 comprises a poppet valve 19 spring-loaded into engagement with a seat 20. The bolting device comprises a pin 22 spring- loaded towards the valve 19 and sensitive to the position of the diaphragm 15 through a pivoted lever 24 and a feeler 23. If for any reason the pressure in the control reservoir is greater than that in the main air conduit 1 and the slider 17 is actuated to move the valve 19 away from the seat 20, the pin 22 will move downwardly to lock the valve open and allow the control reservoir 6 to be connected to atmosphere. The pin 22 will be moved upwardly by the lever 24 to allow the valve 19 to close when the pressure in the control reservoir becomes less than that in the main air conduit 1. In a modification the bolting device takes the form of an annulus which surrounds a cylindrical part connected to the valve 19 and can move, when the valve is opened, between the cylindrical part and the valve to prevent the latter closing.
